Headmaster held on theft charge - Salem Railway Junction

C. Chandran (40), headmaster of Government Middle School at Sempulichanpalayam, near Anthiyur, in Erode district was arrested by the railway police on the charges of stealing from train passengers at Salem Railway Junction.

He was arrested following complaint from a family from Thrissur that their hand bag with two sovereign gold jewellery was missing.

On Sunday night, railway police found him moving in a suspicious manner in the platform. The police checked a bag in his possession and found two sovereign gold jewellery. Inquiries revealed that he had lost money in stock market and used to travel to Salem junction on weekends for stealing from passengers when the train halts at the junction. He told the police that he had stolen a bag that had five sovereign gold jewellery in December last year.

The police recovered seven sovereign gold jewellery. He was produced in the court and lodged in prison on Monday.
